I could use some leaf clearing advice. I have about 1 1/4 acres of lawn virtually surrounded by forest. I have an 11 hp leafblower which is efficient but a bear to lug around the enire property. I have an exmark walk behind to mow with, 12 hp, and was told that the exmark is not big enough for the blower buggies now being sold to push your blower around on. I have a John Deere 650 17hp tractor which I used to mow with and it, of course, has no leaf pick up. Part of my lawn is close to wetlands and, the ground being wet, the grass grows faster with the result that I have to mow and leaf blow each weekend. For years I have seen an Estate Turf Groom Sweeper advertized, it being about $700 I believe. The tractor would certainly pull the sweeper if that is a good way to go. Any thoughts on a less labor intensive way of getting rid of those leaves?

bill,
I have a similar environment and a mulching blade on my exmark works just fine for grinding up the leaves and returning them to the lawn, no sweeping, blowing etc. for the flowerbeds, I built an extension box for the fel and just rake the leaves directly into it ....

I appreciate your reply, particularly coming from a New Englander like myself. I bought the Exmark used last May and really like it. Some time over the summer, I called the company and asked if the mulching blade would solve my problem. With reluctance, the company representative said probably "no" due to the fact that I am virtually surrounded by trees. The solution you suggested is clearly the leaset expensive and the least labor intensive. I will give it a try. ....

Bill,
Sorry, but I should have been more clear. My exmark came with the muching kit (blades, Baffels, and chute block plate) not just the blades. It does cleanup yard areas with very thick coverings of leaves (no grass showing). if the mulch left on the lawn is to thick I just run over it another time. ....
